Why use solid surface in a hospital?
It is the same material all the way through, with no open pores. Water and dirt stay on top, where cleaning reaches them.
Pieces are joined with colour-matched adhesive and sanded smooth, so there are no grout lines. A counter can curve up into the wall, so there is no corner for dirt to collect.
What do the tests show?
LOTTE Chemical publishes these results for Staron (12 mm sheet):
- Water absorption in 24 hours (ASTM D570): 0.04 %
- Fungi and bacteria resistance (ASTM G21, G22): No growth
- Stain resistance (ANSI Z124): Pass (rating 41)
- Fire (ASTM E84): flame spread index 10, smoke developed index 10. Flammability (UBC 8-1): Class A / Class 1
Does this apply to Zenstone too?
No. These results are Staron's only. Zenstone has not published technical data; ask us and we will request it for your project.
Where can it be used?
- Counters and service counters
- Bathroom counters with basins formed in the top
- Interior wall cladding
How do I clean it, and what about disinfectants?
Wipe with a damp cloth, then dry. Avoid acetone, paint stripper and oven cleaner. Do not use scouring powder on a gloss finish.
LOTTE Chemical publishes a separate document on how disinfectants affect Staron (SN-312). Tell us which products your hospital uses and we will check them against it.
Can a worn surface be repaired?
Yes. The colour runs through the full thickness, so light scratches and set-in marks can be sanded out and the surface looks new again. Send us a photo on LINE and we will advise.
Which hospitals have you worked for?
These hospital and clinic projects are on our projects page:
